Day 4 Challenge: Asking and answering "Why" based questions
December 6th, 2020
Title: Why Shadow?
Today's advent challenge involved taking a concept or idea and breaking the concept down with a mixture of "why" questions and answers. I rewrote this challenge a couple of times, not really happy with either direction.
Words started to rhyme so I let it flow and pushed out a poem. I'm still not really satisfied with it and need to remember that isn't the purpose of these challenges. I want to edit and criticize my work which in turn makes me freeze. The purpose of this challenge is to just write every single day for the month of December.
The poem that came out from this challenge questions a friend we are born with; a friend that stays with us until the very end and beyond: our shadow.
Why Shadow?

Winter comes and winter goes,
but why doth my shadow follow me so?
Why doth my shadow flow on the ground,
wet with the darkness and nothing around?
Rain and sleet, or sun and sky,
my shadow’s influenced from up high.
Sleeking silk, touchless form,
my shadow grows then disperses into storm.
Why doth my shadow not speak to me
While it whips beneath the hawthorn tree?
It’s tendrils silent, then disappear
From beneath me into thin air.
Spring melts snow and turns to song
Why doth my shadow dance along?
The sun doth shine and invites the day,
Stalks me swiftly as I play
Upon the old wooden trees
That lost all hope for the bees.
Why doth my shadow stalk me so,
From day to night, where ever I go?
